Ryan Golant is an Enrico Fermi Postdoctoral Fellow, affiliated with both the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics and the Enrico Fermi Institute. Ryan received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2026 and his BA from Princeton University in 2020. Ryan's research generally concerns the physics of collisionless astrophysical plasmas, focusing particularly on how astrophysical magnetic fields are generated and amplified and how these fields modify phenomena such as shocks, turbulence, cosmic ray transport, and cosmic ray acceleration; this research is carried out with the aid of computer simulations modeling both small-scale plasma processes and large-scale cosmological evolution. Beyond research, Ryan is deeply committed to teaching, science communication, and public outreach. Ryan also loves watching and performing improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy, and he is a big fan of art history, movies, video games, DC Comics, and cats (especially his own cat, Alfvie).
