Abigail Vieregg (UChicago) "The P5 Report, CMB-S4, and UChicago"
This past year, I had the pleasure of being a member of the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5), comprised of thoughtful, insightful, brilliant, and truly caring people who were charged with a daunting and exciting task: to create a vision for the next 10 years in US Particle physics, in a 20 year context. It was a scientific and personal journey that will have a significant impact on the shape my scientific career. I will give a summary of the report, which was released in December. I will then take the liberty of discussing the science case and status of the top recommended new large construction project: CMB-S4, a joint NSF/DOE project for which UChicago is the lead NSF institution.
