Title: Quantum Field Theory in Our Universe

Abstract: We do cosmology by correlating things. We infer that the origin of these correlations was an early universe phase called inflation, where we believe that they began as quantum mechanical fluctuations. In order to understand the origins of structure in the universe, we must therefore understand the features of quantum correlations in cosmological spacetimes. This is the domain of quantum field theory. I will describe recent progress in understanding quantum field theory in cosmological spacetimes, like our own. I will focus in particular on a viewpoint that centers the observable correlations generated by cosmology, and works to reconstruct these correlations directly from physical principles.
