Title: Catch them if you can: detecting compact binaries in Advanced LIGO data
Abstract: Improvements made to the LIGO detectors and the search algorithms analyzing the data have facilitated the observation of more than 175 new gravitational wave candidates, nearly double the cumulative number of observations made in the previous three observing runs. Detections made throughout this observing run help complete the census of compact binaries in our universe, which will lead to a more complete understanding of binary populations and their formation mechanisms. Here, I first present a summary of the observations made so far in O4, with a look towards anticipated improvements in the remainder of the run and in O5. I then conclude with a discussion on detection algorithms and how they may utilize machine learning based techniques in the coming years.
