Title: The curious afterlives of stellar mergers
Abstract: Stars often merge with each other, leaving behind remnants with a rich diversity of properties and evolutionary behavior. I will describe the ways in which the internal structure of a stellar merger remnant—visible only through asteroseismology—records its violent past, particularly in the context of stellar engulfments and merged cataclysmic-variable systems. I will further argue that we may have already discovered the long-extinguished white dwarfs left behind by ancient mergers between stars and helium white dwarfs.
