A safe space for EDI in A&A: Back in 2017, a group of graduate students and postdocs from the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics and the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics created IDEA, or Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Astronomy.

Jazmine Jefferson is a second year PhD student in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Astrophysicist and University of Chicago graduate student Abigail Lee is the lead author on a new paper that analyzed observations of light from a nearby galaxy to validate the JAGB method for measuring cosmological distances. This novel technique will allow future independent distance measurements that can help answer one of the biggest outstanding questions in cosmology: how fast is the universe expanding?

Congratulations to Sam Passaglia for successfully defending his Ph.D. dissertation on "The Black Hole Window on Cosmic Inflation". Sam has accepted a postdoctoral position at the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe.

Congratulations to Philip Mansfield for successfully defending his Ph.D. dissertation on "Why Do Dark Matter Halos Die Together? An Intergalactic Murder Mystery". Philip has received a position of a KIPAC fellow at Stanford University.

Jared Siegel has been awarded a Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Award medal for his poster on supernova remnant W49B at the recently concluded 236th AAS meeting.

Nora’s dissertation research is on the discovery and modeling of Milky Way stellar streams, supervised by Alex Drlica-Wagner.
